It's Better in Center!

Visit Center, a nice, quiet community located in the center of Oliver County, 40 miles NW of Bismarck, North Dakota.  Center is home to the Oliver County Courthouse, the Hazel Miner Memorial, a Museum, Historical Society and the newly erected monument to the Veterans of our military.

Our City is unique in that it is the only incorporated city in Oliver County.  Center has a population of 573 residents.  It has one school, Pre-K - 12, home of the Center/Stanton Wildcats.  Center also has an indoor Jr. Olympic size pool that is open year-round, a grass greens golf course, and several parks with camping available.

Other areas of interest in Oliver County are the Knife River Indian Village, Cross Ranch State Park and Nelson Lake.  The Cross Ranch is located 15 miles NE of Center with many activities during the summer.  Nelson Lake, located 5 miles SE of Center, is the only lake in ND that does not freeze in the winter due to the water being warmed by the nearby power plant.  This plays a factor in many big bass being caught here, including a lunker that still holds the state record!

Other local fishing interests along the Missouri river include "The UPA Ramp" located by the Basin Power Cooperative Plant and the Sanger campground boat ramp located two miles south of the Cross Ranch main campground.

Just to the SE of Center is BNI Coal Company and Minnkota Power Plant.  Tours of these facilities are available as it is interesting to see the size of equipment that is used in the surface mine, along with where the coal is processed.  Contact these businesses to set up some very impressive tours that describe in exciting detail how electricity is made for this region.
