Center Mine

Located two miles east, four miles south of Center, ND.The Center Mine is owned and operated by BNI Coal, Ltd. Center, ND (a subsidiary of Minnesota Power Duluth, MN).  This mine supplies lignite to the Milton R. Young Station, Center, ND.

Milton R. Young Station

Five miles east, three miles south of Center, ND is a lignite-fired electric generating station consisting of two units.  This power plant is operated by Minnkota Power Cooperative, Grand Forks, ND.

 

Unit 1 became operational in 1970 and is rated at 250,000 kilowatts. Unit 2 (owned by Square Butte Electric Cooperative) became operational in 1977, it is rated at 455,000 kilowatts.

Leland Olds Station

Located on the Missouri river the LOS is a lignite-fired electric generating station. The plant is owned and operated by Basin Electric Power Cooperative, Bismarck, ND.

 

Unit 1 became operational in 1966 and is rated at 210,000 kilowatts. Unit 2 became operational in 1975 and is rated at 440,000 kilowatts.

Stanton Station

 

Located on the Missouri river the Stanton Station is a lignite-fired electric generating station. The station is owned and operated by Great River Energy, Elk River, MN.  Stanton Station operates one unit rated at 202,000 kilowatts. This unit became operational in 1966.
